Laminated Glass
Laminated Glass, commonly known as “Safety Glass,” consists of two or more glass panes bonded together with one or more layers of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer and then treated under heat and pressure.
The glass panes used can be basic float glass, tempered, or heat-strengthened panels, depending on the desired strength and application. When laminated glass breaks, the glass fragments adhere to the PVB interlayer instead of scattering, significantly reducing the risk of injury from falling glass and providing continued protection against impact or weather exposure.
The PVB interlayer has excellent toughness and elasticity. In the event of strong impact, it absorbs and disperses a large amount of energy, making it difficult to penetrate or shatter the glass completely. Even when broken, laminated glass tends to retain its overall shape, maintaining a barrier that protects people on both sides from harm.
Advantages of Laminated Glass
Enhanced Safety: Glass fragments remain bonded to the PVB layer, minimizing the risk of injury.
High Impact Resistance: Absorbs and disperses impact energy effectively, reducing the likelihood of breakage.
Durability: Maintains its structural integrity even when cracked or broken.
Protection from External Forces: Offers resistance to wind pressure, debris, and attempted break-ins.
Sound Reduction: The PVB interlayer provides effective acoustic insulation.
UV Protection: Blocks a significant portion of harmful ultraviolet rays, helping protect interiors and furnishings.
